Thick black smoke in Chadstone after serious house fire

A two-storey home in Chadstone has been extensively damaged by fire this afternoon.

Crews were called to the Hiscock Street property about 2.30pm.

Fire had engulfed the entire lower floor and quickly spread to the second floor of dwelling.

Initial concerns were held for a missing elderly lady who is the resident of the unit, but it was confirmed by occupants that she was not present.

Crews will be on scene for some time as the fire has caused extensive damage to the unit.

A Community Warning was issued due to thick smoke in the area from the blaze.

Breathing apparatus in use. Damage to exceed $150,000.
