Thomastown home destroyed in suspicious blaze

A Thomastown home has been destroyed by an early morning fire.

At 4.30am MFB firefighters responded to reports of a single storey brick house on fire on Alvarado Avenue.

Due to the number of calls received and the fact one of the callers indicated there may be persons trapped inside an enhanced response was immediately placed on the call.

Upon arrival firefighters found the house well alight, and the fire having spread to the property next door.

Concentrated fire fighting attack from both ground and aerial appliances have confined fire spread to the property involved and the eaves of the property next door.  It was also determined that there were no persons at home at the time.

It is expected that fire fighting personnel will be involved for some hours.

Damage estimated at $250,000.

MFB Fire Investigation Unit will work to determine the cause.
