Two thousand people have been evacuated following a car fire in Hawthorn East this morning.

The fire broke out in the basement of an office building on Toorak Road just after 8am.
Two security guards unsuccessfully attempted to extinguish the fire and were treated at the scene by Ambulance Victoria paramedics.
MFB crews arrived quickly and extinguished the blaze which was contained to the car engine.
However, thick smoke from the incident wafted into several levels of the office building above.
Around two thousand office workers were evacuated until the smoke was cleared.
