Apartment block fire in Kensington

Firefighters were called to apartment fire in Kensington just before midday on Monday.

Occupants were still evacuating upon MFB’s arrival and crews immediately conducted an internal search for other to ensure no-one was inside.

Thankfully everyone was accounted for and crews turned their attention to extinguishing the blaze. Firefighters donned in breathing apparatus conducted an aggressive internal and external attack on the fire and their efforts brought the fire under control in less than 30 minutes.

Crews are currently checking for any extension of fire in the surrounding units.  

Derby Street will remain closed and community members are advised to avoid the area to allow emergency services to continue to conduct their operations

The cause of the fire has been deemed suspicious and Victoria Police will investigate.
