Toxic gas forces evacuation of Springvale warehouse

Workers were evacuated from a Springvale warehouse due to a hazmat incident earlier this morning.

Crews were called to the freight warehouseon Centre Road near Westall Road, just before 2am.

Firefighters with specialist breathing apparatus and hazmat equipment responded quickly and the warehouse was evacuated.

Crews were informed that a toxic substance had escaped from a 100L cylinder.

It took sometime but firefighters wearing fully encapsulated suits isolated the leaking cylinder.

Ambulance Victoria attended and checked the employees of the warehouse.

There were no reported injuries.
