A passing tradesman helped save the lives of two sleeping residents in a unit fire earlier today.

The “tradie” who kicked in the back door suffered minor injuries and one of the residents suffered smoke inhalation, both were taken to hospital for observation.

The two bedroom single storey unit was totally destroyed leaving a damage bill in excess of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. The cause has not been determined as yet, but, specialist MFB investigators will attend later in the day to attempt to establish a cause.

No working smoke alarms were detected in the unit to warn the sleeping residents and only the quick work of the “tradie” averted a tragedy.

Once again the MFB recommends you check your smoke alarms regularly and change the batteries when you change your clocks with daylight saving.
