Two properties damaged after cooking oil starts fire in Ascot Vale

MFB crews were called out to a kitchen fire at a property in Ascot Vale at 12:25 this afternoon.

Firefighters arrived on scene at the property on Ascot Vale Road in 4 minutes

Additional appliances were requested as the fire had already spread to the roof space involving an adjoining property before.

All occupants had self-evacuated however Ambulance Victoria were called for one of the occupants suffering smoke inhalation. They were treated at the scene and released.

Ascot Vale Road near Regent Street was closed to traffic while MFB battled to contain the fire in the single storey and double storey residences.

The Incident Controller deemed the fire under control in 55 minutes with cooking oils on a cooktop identified as the cause of the fire, both properties have sustained severe fire and smoke damage.

Victoria Police also assisted at the scene.
