UPDATE: Cause of Hampton unit fire revealed

Fire investigators have determined the cause of a fire, which damaged several units and shops in Hampton yesterday.

MFB Fire Investigators have determined the cause of a unit fire on Hampton Street yesterday was electrical arcing in the wiring of the building.

The entire complex will be uninhabitable for some time while repairs take place. Firefighters supervised as residents were allowed in to collect personal belongings this afternoon.

The two restaurants located on street level were also affected by water and smoke damage and remain closed.

Bayside City Council has taken over control of the site.
