Unattended candle to blame for Preston house blaze

An unattended candle has caused half a million dollars damage to a Preston home.

Crews were called to the Regent Street property just after 3.30pm on Australia Day.
Most of the roof and the rear portion of this timber dwelling was destroyed.
Quick action by firefighters had the fire under control in 40 minutes, stopping its spread to neighbouring buildings.
Breathing apparatus was in use.
Damage is believed to be in the range of $500,000.
