Candles left burning unattended are the suspected cause of a fire which ripped through a Heidelberg West unit last night.
Firefighters arrived at the two-storey Liberty Parade home just after 10.15pm to find flames 10 metres x 15 metres high and smoke billowing out.
Crews in breathing apparatus aggressively attacked the blaze from the ground floor and managed to get it under control within about 30 minutes.
Luckily, the occupants of the home had evacuated safely prior to MFB's arrival.
One person was treated by Ambulance Victoria after suffering possible smoke inhalation.
