18 Oct 2017
Unattended cooking has caused more than $120,000 worth of fire damage to a Bentleigh East unit this evening.

Firefighters were called to the home in Benina St just before 9pm following reports of a blaze.

It's believed the fire was sparked by unattended cooking and travelled quickly  through the range hood and into the roof space.
It took 23 firefighters approximately 20 minutes to get the fire under control.
They managed to stop the blaze from spreading beyond the kitchen and living room areas.
The occupants weren't home when the fire began but returned as firefighters were battling it.
