back to list
31 Aug 2018
Firefighters have spent the night battling a significant fire at a West Footscray factory.

The fire has been burning since 5am yesterday and was declared under control about 10pm last night.

Approximately 60 firefighters remain on scene in 25 appliances this morning.

MFB has called in heavy machinery to gain better access to the seat of the fire.

The fire is approximately 14,000 square metres in size and is being fuelled by a range of materials, such as acetone drums, cannisters and scrap metal.

The smoke has dissipated significantly today and residents are advised to go about their usual activities but continue to monitor conditions and limit their exposure to smoke.

Melbourne Water and the EPA are working to minimise the environmental impacts in the area but community members are advised to avoid Stony Creek due to water run off.

Somerville and Paramount roads remain closed.
