MFB Firefighters arrived on scene within 4 minutes of receiving the first fire call. On arrival they found the top floor of the two storey townhouse fully involved in fire. Adjoining units were evacuated.

Date: September 12, 2011

Time: 20:27 hours

Call Number: 3981

Address: Newport

The large fire took 30 minutes to contain and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus searched the premises as the occupant had not been accounted for. Sadly a deceased person has been found in the upstairs living area.

This townhouse was one of a group of four.  Fortunately the firefighters were able to stop the spread of fire into adjoining properties and utilising thermal imaging equipment confirmed this.

Specialist MFB Fire Investigators are currently on scene to determine the cause of the fire which is currently unknown.

Attending Appliances: 8

Number of firefighters: 30

Officer in charge: Commander Frank Besanko
