Minimum Entry Requirements

Applicants must comply with the minimum entry requirements prior to submitting an application. Any applicant that does not meet the minimum entry requirements must wait until they are eligible to before lodging an application.

Educational prerequisites

There are no educational prerequisites to apply. The selection process is designed to objectively determine an applicant’s suitability for the role of firefighter.

Citizenship requirements

An applicant seeking employment with MFB, as a firefighter must be either:

  • an Australian citizen - a birth certificate, citizenship certificate or current passport is required as proof of eligibility
  • a permanent resident of Australia
  • a New Zealand citizen who has entered Australia on a valid passport.

Licence requirements

Applicants must hold a current drivers licence (manual or automatic and interstate/international drivers licences are accepted). Probationary licences are also acceptable.

A heavy rigid driver’s licence is not required.
